English Dept. organizes Department Seminar

 

The departmental Seminar of the department of English Don Bosco College, Tura was held on 12th of October 2022 in the Bosco Hall. The programme was chaired by the 3rd Semester students, Agape Cheansal M Marak and Rusika Sangma. The day began with a special number from Tengchime D Marak 1st Semester student who acknowledged the indispensable role of parents “The older I get, the more than I see. My parents aren’t heroes, their trust just like me, loving is hard I don’t always work, you just try your best.”

The day long programme commenced with a Welcome speech delivered by Sr., (Dr) Lucy R Marak, the HOD. In her welcome addressed she extended a warm welcome to the Principal, the faculty members and the students of the 1st, 3rd semester students and a special welcome to the students of the 5th semester the paper presenters.

 

In her introductory talk Sr. Lucy, a brief introduction on the topic of the Seminar “From Romantic Movements to Modernism.”She said that Poetry II which is dealt in the 5th Semester begins with the study of the major poets of the Romantic Movement in English Poetry of the 19th century. Besides embodying the major preoccupations of Romantic poetry, the poems are also meant to reflect the times. The Victorian period, with its troubled complexity is represented by its most celebrated poets like Tennyson, Browning, Arnold. Modern poetry is represented by Hopkins, W. B. Yeats, T.S.Eliot and Dylan Thomas.

She congratulated the paper presenters for their interest and the hard work that they have put in and wished them that this effort they have made may lead them to greater heights and achievements.

 

Rev. Fr. Bivan Rodrigues Mukhim, Principal present for the inauguration also encouraged the students to participate in all the activities of the department as it will all help them in their future as they pursue higher studies. The principal said that most of the past pupils of the College acknowledged that the Seminars that are conducted in the College enables them to overcome stage fear and helps them to perform better in the Post Graduates studies.

Miss Cherimchi M Sangma proposed the vote of thanks and a 5th year Semester student Tanmoy Sarkar on behalf of the students thanked the department for organizing the seminar which he said was the first time that he had participated in a seminar. The day long programme came to an end with distribution of Certificates to all the participants by the IQAC coordinator Dr. Barbara S Sangma.
