Snehalaya Students visit Don Bosco College - Tura

 

The students of Snehalaya (An Abode of Love) street children’s home, Guwahati had a special opportunity on 1st May 2023, as they visited Don Bosco College Tura. The visit was organized with the aim of providing the students with a glimpse into college life and the different educational opportunities available to them.

 

The group of students were accompanied by Fr Thomas Anikuzhikattil, the Rector of Snehalaya, along with Fr Martin Marak, the Asst. Director of the center, and the staff and caretakers of the different Snehalaya shelter homes. As they arrived at the college, they were welcomed warmly by the faculty and students.

 

Fr. Bivan Rodriques Mukhim, the Principal of Don Bosco College Tura, took the time to speak to the students and informed them about the different courses offered at the college. He also shared information about the campus and its facilities. The students were given a tour of the campus and had the opportunity to interact with current students, who shared their own experiences of college life and answered the visitors' questions.

 

The highlight of the visit was a motivational speech given by Fr John Paul Tirkey, the Vice Principal of Don Bosco College Tura. He spoke to the students about the importance of education and encouraged them to pursue their dreams and aspirations with determination and hard work. His words of wisdom were well received by the students, who were visibly inspired and motivated.

 

Snehalaya is a social program established on 1st January, 2001. It was founded by Fr. Lukose Cheruvalel. It came up with an ultimate aim of child welfare by providing them food, shelter, education, clothes and most importantly a child friendly environment. Having determined to a noble cause, the programme over the years has succeeded to quite an extent. It had greatly expanded under the guidance and expertise of its founder and his committed team. At present there are five Snehalaya Homes established strategically in Guwahati. They are- Night Shelter at Paltan Bazar; Children’s Home at Dhirenpara; Auxilium Snehalaya at Noonmati; Jyoti Snehalaya at Beltola; and ILa Snehalaya at Betkuchi.

 

The programs run by Snehalaya are centered on child rights and has been recognized officially under Government JJ Act 2015. It is now a full- fledged CCI (Child Care Institute) for underprivileged children. The organization over the years with great determination has accomplished in great ways. The noble cause of child welfare has been the sole service of Snehalaya making the city of Guwahati child friendly.
