Physics Students Visit DDK, Nokpante Studio as part of their study

 

Travelling is a great way to broaden one’s horizons and gain new experiences. Recently, the opportunity to embark on a trip to ‘NokpanteStudio’ and ‘Tura Doordarshan Kendra’ was made possible by the Department of Physics, Don Bosco College, Tura and it was memorable experience for the students. The purpose of the trip was to gain a better understanding of the insights of the studio, recording and broadcasting; understanding how works will help oneself to create or bring their ideas of life in reality.

 

The trip on 2nd May, 2023 started from the college at 10:00AM. The first visit was to the ‘Nokpante Studio’ located in Araimile, Tura, Meghalaya. Forty-six Physics Honours students from 6th and 4th Semesters, four faculty members and one laboratory assistant of the Department of Physics, Don Bosco College, Tura were welcomed by Mr. Mikhail Marak, the owner of the studio. He is also the lead singer of the Nokpante band and is also a YOUTH ICON of Meghalaya. From the college side - a memento, a scarf and a gift was handed over to him. He gave a short speech before taking the students inside the studio. The students were explained in batches of 11-12 about the process and technicalities of recording. The students were also able to see few rare musical instruments inside the sound-proof studio. The students took the opportunity to ask various questions and also took pictures inside as well as outside the studio. The students spent about 2 hours in the campus of the Nokpante studio.

 

The next visit was Doordarshan Kendra located at Administrative Block, RVTI Entrance, Dakopgre, Tura, Meghalaya. The bus reached the Kendra at around 1.00 PM. The staff of Doordarshan welcomed the faculty and the students. In turn, from the college side two senior officers were presented with a scarf and a college memento. Mr. Jim Sangma and Mr. Crimson explained and showed practically many things, like how the camera works, how to fix the light, how to operate the recording equipments, etc. The trip to the Doordarshan Kendra was for about one and half hour.

 

The Studio of Doordarshan is very large. The students were shown how the different sets works, how the Producer communicates with the Cameraman in sign language, how the connections made, etc. The recordings and broadcasting equipments were practically shown to the students and how they work. The authorities of the Doordarshan Kendra explained to the students in details.

 

The students took group pictures inside the campus along with the teachers, boarded the bus and headed back to college.

The field trip had been a memorable and educative experience, connecting the students to nature (as both the campus are situated in the hub of forests) and spending time together with teachers and other fellow students in the midst of learning new things.
