Tura CUET students get examination centre in Ranchi

A set of candidates from Don Bosco College in Tura, Meghalaya, who were due to take the Central University Entrance Test (CUET), have been allotted an examination centre in Ranchi, Jharkhand, in an unexpected turn of events. This decision by the National Testing Agency (NTA) has shocked and disappointed students and parents alike.

For the CUET examination centres, the students initially chose Shillong as their first choice and Guwahati as their second choice. They were shocked to learn that Ranchi had been assigned to them instead. The unexpected change of venue has caused major hardship and logistical difficulties for the students, who were already prepared for the exam under the premise that it would be held closer to home.

To make matters worse, the CUET exam is scheduled for June 16, but students will not receive their admit cards until the morning of June 14. This has left them with very little time to make travel and lodging arrangements in Ranchi, which is around 600 kilometres away from Tura.

The gravity of the situation is heightened by the fact that the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Environmental Studies (EVS) examination, which was initially planned for June 14, has been rescheduled for June 20, 2023. Given the physical distance between Ranchi and Tura, students will be unable to return in time to write their NEHU examination, jeopardising their academic career.

The students and their parents have expressed their dissatisfaction and frustration with the NTA’s decision. They believe that the abrupt change in examination location without prior warning or approval is a flagrant breach of their rights and an act of harassment. They claim that the NTA’s actions have deprived them of the option to further their study at a central university, compromising their academic objectives.
