Field Trip Unearths Insights into Meghalaya's Aquatic Ecosystems.

Students and faculty members from the 5th semester Zoology major embarked on an educational expedition on September 7th, 2023, delving into the diverse aquatic ecosystems of the South West Garo Hills district in Meghalaya. The team explored three distinct water bodies - Kumoli Beel, Komen Lake, and Kudaldhowa Pond - to glean invaluable insights into the physico-chemical and biological parameters that shape these habitats.

The field trip was designed with two primary objectives. Firstly, to scrutinize various physico-chemical and biological facets of the water bodies, and subsequently, to discern and compare the diversity of these parameters across the three distinct environments.

The initial phase of the expedition successfully achieved the first objective, with students diligently collecting data and observations. They are slated to compile their findings into a comprehensive field trip report, which will serve as a seminal reference for future studies in this domain.

Moving forward, for the second objective, the Kudaldhowa Pond emerged as the focal point for an extensive research project. Over the next six months, students will conduct a detailed study of this specific aquatic environment. Their findings and analyses will be encapsulated in a project report scheduled for submission in March 2024.

The faculty members overseeing the endeavor are committed to providing comprehensive academic support, ensuring the students have the necessary resources and guidance to drive the project to successful fruition. This holistic approach is expected to bolster the academic prowess of the participating students while contributing valuable knowledge to the field of aquatic biology.
