Chemistry Department commemorates World Ozone Day.

 

The Department of Chemistry at Don Bosco College Tura organized a special program on September 16th, 2023, to mark World Ozone Day under the theme of "Preservation of Ozone Layer". The event saw the participation of esteemed guests including Rev. Fr. Bivan Rodriguez Mukhim, the Principal of Don Bosco College Tura, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Also in attendance were Fr. John Paul Tirkey, the Vice Principal, Heads of Departments from various disciplines, professors, and students from the Science Department.

 

The program commenced with a welcome song presented by the first-semester Chemistry students. Following this, Kambechi K. Sangma, a fifth-semester Chemistry student, extended a warm welcome to all attendees. The ceremony continued with the dignitaries, including the Chief Guest, Vice Principal, Professors, and three student representatives, lighting the ceremonial lamp.

Dr. Madhusadhan Saha, Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry, delivered keynote address to the audience, emphasizing the significance of preserving the Ozone Layer.

 

In his speech, the Chief Guest commended the Department of Chemistry for their proactive initiative and urged students to actively engage in such programs for enriched learning experiences. He underscored the individual responsibility each person carries towards the preservation of the Ozone Layer and shared personal anecdotes highlighting his own contributions.

 

During the event, Prof. Habul Chandra Das, Head of the Department of Mathematics, Prof. Dr. Biswajit Paul, Head of the Department of Zoology, and Dr. Yuvaraj Sharma, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics, addressed the gathering as representatives of the teaching faculty.

The inaugural session culminated with a vote of thanks delivered by Ma’am Popy Dey, Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry.

 

Following the Inaugural Session, the Technical Session unfolded with presentations from third and fifth-semester students of the Chemistry Department, all centered around the theme of "Preservation of Ozone Layer". This was followed by an engaging quiz session facilitated by Kelly G. Momin and Dimrikchi M. Sangma, both from the fifth semester of the Chemistry program. The best speakers were recognized and announced by Prof. Jayatosh De, Head of the Chemistry Department, who also provided closing remarks.

 

The program reached its conclusion with the resonant notes of the National Anthem, led by the fifth-semester students. The event was skillfully hosted by Dimrikchi M. Sangma and Jeremiah T. Sangma, also from the fifth semester of the Chemistry honours.
