Department of Commerce Hosts Transformative Seminar on Skill Development.

 

In a concerted effort to equip their students with the essential skills and qualities required for a sustainable future, the Department of Commerce at Don Bosco College, Tura, organized a departmental seminar on September 19th, 2023. The event, featured presentations by students from B.com I, III, and V Semesters focusing on the topic

"Developing Skills for a Transformative Future."

 

The seminar aimed to reinforce the entrepreneurial spirit and capabilities of the students, with a specific focus on leadership, management, communication, and decision-making skills. It sought to empower the students with the skill sets needed to become drivers of innovation and economic development, fostering a belief that each individual possesses unique ideas and talents.

Scope and Objectives

 

The objectives of the seminar were well-defined:

 

1. Imparting skills and knowledge in the areas of leadership, management, communication, and decision-making.

2. Equipping students with the skill sets necessary to become major contributors to innovation and economic development.

3. Cultivating a sense of self-belief among students, emphasizing their uniqueness in terms of ideas and talents.

 

The seminar had a multifaceted scope:

1. Providing a framework for students to develop as potential entrepreneurs.

2. Offering training that enhances students' employability across various fields.

3. Creating a platform for presenters to improve their presentation skills effectively.

The seminar took place in the Bosco Hall at DBC Tura. The event was anchored by Miss Tania Debnath, a student from the V Semester. Mr. Sabindra Barman, the Head of the Commerce Department, extended a warm welcome to all attendees and provided a brief introduction to the seminar's subject.

 

Mr. Mridul Chanda then took the stage, delivering a keynote address that emphasized the significance and necessity of skill development. He stressed that potential entrepreneurs should aim to be job creators rather than job seekers.

 

The seminar received an honor with the presence of Fr. Bivan Rodriques Mukhim, the Principal of the College. In his address, he discussed the theme "Developing Skill Development for a Transformative Future" and encouraged students to acquire the entrepreneurial qualities and skills needed to launch their ventures. Fr. Mukhim also shed light on several Entrepreneur Development Programs held at various locations and various schemes initiated by the Meghalaya Government.

 

The stage was then turned over to the students, who delivered their presentations on skill development using LCD projectors.

All presenters showcased their topics effectively, contributing to the seminar's success. The event concluded with heartfelt gratitude expressed by Mr. Andrew B. Sangma, Assistant Professor of Commerce. He extended his thanks to Fr. Bivan Rodrigue Mukhim for gracing the occasion, the enthusiastic students, the faculty members, and the technical team, particularly Mr. Kaushik Paul, for their support in setting up the smart board and LCD projector for the seminar.
