Sociology Department Empowers Students Through Insightful Seminar.

 

In a bid to foster academic growth and enrich the communication skills of students, the Sociology Department at Bosco Hall hosted a departmental seminar for sociology honors students. The event, held on September 27, 2023, witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various semesters.

 

The seminar commenced at 1:30 PM with a solemn prayer led by Yakub Lakra, a 5th-semester sociology honors student. Following this, the Head of the Sociology Department, Ms. Judalin Kharshandi, extended a warm welcome to the gathering.

 

The seminar, saw students divided into six groups (A, B, C, D, E, F). Each group comprised 10 students, except one, which had 11 members. The presentations were orchestrated by 5th-semester students, with each group presenting on topics relating to Gender Roles within Families.

Students, guided by their mentors, demonstrated their research findings through captivating PowerPoint presentations, which were projected onto an HD TV screen. The choice of topic, rooted in sociological relevance, was inspired by the department's instructors.

 

Fr Bivan Rodriques Mukhim, Principal graced the occasion with opening remarks and provided profound insights into the significance of family in society. Father Principal emphasized that understanding and appreciating Gender Roles within families is paramount to nurturing healthy relationshipsHe ardently advocated for equality, stressing that roles within families and workplaces should not be dictated by gender, but rather by equity and mutual respect.

 

Adding to the wealth of knowledge, Dr. Barbara S. Sangma, IQAC Coordinator of Don Bosco College Tura and a distinguished guest of honor, delivered an illuminating speech on Gender Roles and Family Life in Indian Society. Dr. B.S. Sangma eloquently navigated the transition from traditional to modern perspectives, providing a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter.

 

The distinguished speaker highlighted the significance of gender roles and family dynamics in literature and urged the audience to contemplate these concepts from a standpoint of equity. Dr. B.S. Sangma left the audience with a resounding call to action, urging society to not only discuss but to actively implement equitable practices.
