DBC Cultural Club participates in 30 Drums Wangala Festival.

 

In a vibrant celebration of cultural richness, the inaugural 30 Drums Wangala Festival echoed through the serene landscapes of Chengggapara P.O Gambegre, West Garo Hills, Meghalaya on the 11th of November 2023. The event was meticulously organized by Shri Bostone M Sangma, the General Secretary of the 30 Drums Wangala Committee, marking a historic moment for the region.

 

Three Wangala troupes brought the festival to life, showcasing the diverse cultural tapestry of the area. The participating troupes included the esteemed Dokakku Art and Cultural Association from Tura, the spirited Bolbokgre Cultural Society from Selsella, and the vibrant Bosco Ranggore Cultural Club (DBC) from Tura.

 

The festival was graced by the presence of Shri Rakesh A Sangma, a Member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council, who presided as the Chief Guest. The Guest of Honour for the occasion was Shri Saljong R Marak (MCS), the Addl. Deputy Commissioner of Tura.

 

The beating heart of the festival was not just the rhythmic sounds of the drums but the enthusiastic participation of the community. Numerous senior citizens, nokmas, and locals immersed themselves in the festivities, contributing to the jubilant atmosphere that enveloped Chengggapara.

Adding a youthful and energetic flair to the festival, the students of Don Bosco College played a pivotal role as one of the most crucial Wangala troupes. Led by Sir Jakrimra and Ma'am Cherimchi from the English Department, the students showcased their talent and dedication, further emphasizing the intergenerational and inclusive spirit of the 30 Drums Wangala Festival.

 

The event not only served as a platform to celebrate the cultural heritage of the region but also fostered a sense of unity and pride among the residents of Chengggapara. As the sun set on this historic day, the beats of the Wangala drums resonated in the hearts of all attendees, leaving an indelible mark on the cultural landscape of West Garo Hills. The 30 Drums Wangala Festival is poised to become an annual tradition, promising to draw even greater participation and enthusiasm in the years to come.
