Bosco Ranggore Cultural Club (BRCC) bags First Prize in Wangala Dance Competition.

 

The Bosco Ranggore Cultural Club (BRCC), whose members comprise of both the present and past students of Don Bosco College, Tura, participated in yet another cultural event, namely 50 DRUMS WANGALA FESTIVAL organised by Posenggagre Sports and Cultural Club and brought laurels to the College and Tura town by bagging the First Prize in Wangala Dance Competition. While all the other dance troupes had done very well, Don Bosco College stole the hearts of the Judges and the audience with their excellent and smooth execution of the dance. The BRCC was singled out for their discipline and dance professionalism from start and finish. The organizers announced that Don Bosco College, Tura has led by example and sent out a message that educational institutions should not only be imparting book-knowledge but should be imparting and reviving knowledge on culture and customs and should help in preserving them in the best possible way.

The cultural event was held from 1st to 3rd February in Posenggagre and five dancing troupes from the nearby villages along with Don Bsoco College participated in it. Apart from bagging the First Prize in Wangala Dance Competition, the BRCC members also participated in the General 50-Dums Wangala Performance. This is not all, they also participated and competed in many events organized during the tree-days festival and two of the dancers from BRCC - Drawets N. Marak and Nirik R. Marak bagged Second Prizes in Singing Compeition (General Category) and An•ding Oka (tradtitional game), respectively.

All in all, it was a great learning experience for the students of Don Bosco College, especially as they got the opportunity to witness Delang So•a and the dance that followed it, along with various folk singing, traditional games, etc. The BRCC was joined by it’s mentors Dr. Barbara S. Sangma (Associate Prof. Dept of English), Dr. Colnat B. Marak (Asst. Prof., Dept. of Garo) and Ms. Cherimchi M. Sangma (Asst. Prof. Dept of English) on 3rd February, the day of the Wangala Dance Competition.
