In the realm of artistic creation, the tension between tradition and innovation has long been a subject of debate. On 29th February 2024, the 6th Semester English Department Shift I hosted a riveting debate competition centered on the question: "Do you agree with T.S. Eliot that tradition is important for an individual to produce a new work of art in the contemporary context?"

The event drew a diverse array of participants, each armed with compelling arguments and insights into the relevance of tradition in modern artistic expression. While some champions of innovation argued vehemently for the necessity of breaking free from tradition to pave the way for fresh, groundbreaking works, others staunchly defended T.S. Eliot's assertion that tradition serves as a crucial foundation upon which new artistic endeavors can flourish.

Participants delved deep into the essence of tradition, exploring its role as a guiding force, providing a sense of continuity and cultural heritage. They highlighted how familiarity with established norms and techniques can inform and enrich contemporary creations, acting as a springboard for innovation rather than a hindrance.
