College celebrates International Women’s Day.

Don Bosco College, Tura, spearheaded by its Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) organized a day-long programme today, the 8th of March to celebrate the International Women’s Day. The day started with a Programme at the Amphitheatre for the whole College. The Programme exuded a breath of fresh air as its Special Guest was Dr. Natasha R Marak, Assistant Professor in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition at the College of Community Science, CAU, Tura. She is a young very promising academician who was honoured with the Mid Career Scientist Award at the 35th Biennial National Conference on Multidisciplinary Approaches in Home and Community Science for Sustainable Development. She spoke about her life, academics, and her battle with Cancer even as she was pursuing her PhD. The students and everyone present listened to her in rapt attention and the air was palpable with admiration for her.

The Principal of the College spoke at length about the contribution of various women, and recalled the selfless contribution of mothers in particular. Dr. Barbara S. Sangma, The Convener of the Internal Complaints Committee of the College spoke briefly about the theme of the International Women’s Day 2024. The Programme was made interesting and enriching by the speech delivered by Aaron Babra, a male student, and the songs and dances presented by the students.

Smt. Rehny A. Sangma delivered the Vote of Thanks keeping alive the tradition of gratitude.

The second part of the programme of the International Women’s Day Celebration was the Debate Competition organized by the ICC of the College for College Teachers of Tura. Teachers from five Colleges debated on the topic “Matrilineal System Without Formal Guarantee of Equality, Justice, Economic Rights and Correct Perception of Women in General, is an Illusion”. Ms. Yankitina Goldiva D. Sangma, Assistant Professor of Tura Christian College and a Research Scholar, Dr. Barbara S. Sangma, Associate Professor of Don Bosco College, Tura and Dr. Sanggra A. Sangma, Associate Professor of Don Bosco College, Tura were awarded the Best Speaker, Second Best Speaker and Third Best Speaker, respectively. The Debate was made more significant and enriching with the inputs from the three Judges - Shri Tyrone D’Brass, former Headmaster of Sherwood School, Smt. Luna A. Sangma - an Advocate, Prof. Dwijen Sharma and the Speaker - Smt. Ferlin A. Sangma, a former Meghalaya State Bureaucrats and ex-MLA. Certificates were awarded to the winners of the Debate Competition and also to the participants.
