Freshers’ Social 2025

14 Aug, 2025

The Freshers’ Social 2025 of Don Bosco College, Tura, was celebrated with remarkable splendour and warmth on 14 August 2025 in the college amphitheatre, against the backdrop of a delightfully temperate day. The celebration was a joint welcome for the freshers of the Morning, Day, and Evening shifts, marking not only the commencement of their academic sojourn but also their formal induction into the vibrant ethos of the college.

The occasion was planned and executed under the able guidance of Fr John Paul Tirkey, Vice Principal, Ms. Genevieve A. Sangma, the Cultural Committee, and the Students’ Welfare Association (SWA). Attendance was nothing short of impressive, with the amphitheatre brimming with eager faces—particularly the new entrants, whose anticipation was matched by their visible delight. The weather lent its blessing, offering intervals of gentle drizzle that refreshed without hindering the proceedings.

The day’s programmes were inaugurated with a gracious welcome address by the Mr Barnabas Sangma, President of the SWA, who extended cordial greetings to the freshers, introducing them to an institution steeped in a legacy of academic distinction, fraternal camaraderie, and abundant avenues for the cultivation of skill and talent. His words invited the newcomers to immerse themselves in the rich life of the college, embracing both scholarship and community.

In a thought-provoking address, Mr. Habul Das, Head of the Department of Mathematics, underscored the importance of growth in the human, spiritual, divine, and intellectual dimensions, proposing the triad of Preparation, Participation, and Projection as the hallmarks of a fulfilling student life. He lauded the enduring contribution of the Don Bosco Society—globally, nationally, and within the Garo Hills—as a beacon of transformative education.

A fresher, speaking on behalf of her peers, expressed profound optimism and gratitude, recalling formative experiences in her higher secondary years and voicing a spirited hope for the journey ahead at Don Bosco College.

Delivering the keynote address, Fr. Januarius S. Sangma, Principal of the college, drew inspiration from the immortal words of St. John Bosco: “For you I study, for you I work, for you I live, and for you I am willing to give my life.” He exhorted both faculty and students to embody this spirit of selfless dedication. In a striking metaphor, he likened the process of education to a tailor’s art—transforming raw, uncut cloth into garments of beauty and purpose—reminding the freshers that the rigours of formation refine the individual into their finest form.

The cultural segment unfurled in a kaleidoscope of performances—melodious live singing, stirring musical ensembles, dynamic dances, and engaging games—culminating in the selection of Mr Fresher Master Hanun Kasaenik K Sangma and Miss Fresher Susmita Hajong 2026. The seniors’ artistry and hospitality created an atmosphere that was both celebratory and inclusive, ensuring the freshers felt immediately at home.

The programme drew to a close with a vote of thanks, followed by the distribution of refreshments and an exuberant session of group dancing, which brought the day’s joy to its natural crescendo. With favourable weather, seamless organisation, and performances of exceptional calibre, the Freshers’ Social 2025 will be remembered as a day when tradition and youthful exuberance converged in harmonious celebration.
